Quick!  Name a famous Colombian music artist....

 

 

 

 

 

Most people from the United States would first think of Shakira.

 

Unfortunately, English speakers miss out on a many great artists from around the world because we don't tend to listen to music in languages other than our own. It was not until Shakira began releasing translations of her songs in English that she make it big in the USA. 

 

Juanes is another extremely talented Colombian singer, musician and songwriter worth getting to know.

 

He was born in 1972 in Antioquia Colombia by the name of Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez.  His stage name is a contraction of Juan and Esteban. 

 

 

Juanes has won Grammies, MTV, American Music and Billboard awards. He has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.  He is also known as a humanitarian and social activist.

 

 

 

 

  

 

Here is the video with lyrics.  I have started to use these after we have done a cloze activity with the song and are correcting it.  It gives me a chance to point out grammar notes and also helps them learn to separate the words and hear them more clearly. (Note:  There may be missing accents or other mistakes in the lyrics videos.)
